Merida is a fascinating city founded in 25 BC for the discharged Roman soldiers from the army of Augustus. It must have been some retirement community. It has several major Roman monuments in surprisingly good condition:

Merida was my first rest day and I spent it wandering through the ruins, especially the amphitheater and the Roman theater, and enjoying the atmosphere in the city.
